Why We Started GlobalNL

GlobalNL is excited to launch the 1st episode of Season 2 with two co-founders of GlobalNL. Gregory Smyth and Kinglsey Gifford discussed why they started the GlobalNL organization. Gregory has an extensive work history, from the Oil & Gas industry to the most innovative technology industry sector. Currently, he is working as a Group Supply Manager at Tesla. Kingsley holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a B.Eng. from Memorial University. Kingsley started his career working as an engineer in the electric utility, and oil and gas industries and now works in finance at a private equity firm.

Founding members Greg Smyth and Kingsley Gifford shared their motivations and aspirations for GlobalNL, a chance to meet those from home, form friendships, make business connections and join together to share the best of Newfoundland and Labrador abroad.

Smyth said “During my recent career transition from the Oil & Gas industry to the technology sector, Newfoundlanders living in Silicon Valley offered their time, advice and personal connections to help me. I hope to pay this generosity forward and inspire others who are considering entrepreneurship or non-traditional industries.”

Gifford said “Anywhere in the world you go if there are two Newfoundlanders and Labradorians in a room they’ll find each other. GlobalNL is accelerating those connections and our ability to support each other - I’m excited by what we’ve accomplished thus far and what we’ll do to continue to connect thousands in communities, towns and cities around the world.
